Low wheel grew out of a laundry village. The tradition of washing has become established to a certain extent, because in addition to the preserved historical sewage treatment plant, Niederrad is also associated with the Niederrad sewage treatment plant. However, this is not in Niederrad, but in Schwanheim.
Paradoxically, in addition to the sewage treatment plant, Niederrad is also known for things that do not belong to Niederrad: the Niederrad racecourse is actually in Sachsenhausen-Süd and the Niederrad office district is also largely in Schwanheim and is now also called the Lyoner Quartier. Nevertheless, it is easy to reach from Niederrad, which makes Niederrad a popular residential area. Parts of the university hospital actually belong to Niederrad, which is why the area is also attractive for students.
Architecturally, Niederrad combines different architectural styles. The old town center has been partially preserved and still has a few tranquil half-timbered houses. Particularly interesting is the Bruchfeldstrasse housing estate from the 1920s, designed by Ernst May and also called “Zickzackhausen” because of its facade arrangement. Unfortunately, only partially preserved, but still worth seeing, is the archway with the two side wings of the baroque women’s courtyard.

There are some cycle paths on the nearby Main. The Niederrad light and air bath can also be found here and is a popular destination in summer for sunbathing and relaxing.
The transport connections in Niederrad are excellent: the train station in Niederrad is served by several S-Bahn and regional trains and thanks to the various bus and tram lines you can reach the city center and Sachsenhaus quickly and easily. The highway is not far away either.
